On average, an MBO student who want to vote near his or her school, will have to walk 350 meters to the nearest polling station. Of the 432 vocational institutions there are 9 locations at a distance of over a kilometer. There are 57 schools where a polling station is within 100 meters away.
To get more young people to the polls on March 15 a number of initiatives are underway. One is to get ballot boxes to youngsters. Since Open State Foundation harvested all voting locations, we can also see what the average distance is between vocational schools and the nearest voting locations.
We looked at the list of addresses of vocational schools which can be found at data.duo.nl and the distance between the locations of these schools and the nearest polling stations. The data with polling stations includes 9,017 polling stations in 388 municipalities.
