What innovative and creative applications are possible with data from our natural capital? Think of biomass-based energy, water, green recreation, natural heritage and soil fertility. What happens when you combine data from coastal protection with other relevant data? Wouldn’t it be nice if you receive an alert when there is a risk of flooding? How clean is the air in the area where you are about to buy a home? How green is that neighbourhood?
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment unlocks with its website Atlas Natural Capital data about air quality, water retention and green recreational areas. This allows the status of natural capital in the Netherlands a role to play in day-to-day life.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, Open State Foundation organises the app competition Hacking for Sustainability.
