Make an app for the municipal elections 2018<\/h3><\/pre>\n
More and more municipalities are unlocking council meetings data as open data. Information that helps council members to do their work, journalists to control and citizens to participate. Now, developers, designers, datajournalists and data analists can re-use the data as well.<\/p>\n
KING<\/a>, the Quality Institute of Dutch Municipalities, challenges developers to send in creative ideas for an app<\/strong><\/a> that re-uses Open Council Data.<\/p>\n
A jury decides which idea will be awarded with \u20ac20000 euros development budget to implement the idea. The App Challenge is organised by KING with support of the Dutch Ministry of Interior. Ideas can be send in until October 31, 2017.<\/p>\n
What is Open Council Data<\/h3><\/pre>\n
Within the Digitale Agenda 2020<\/a> VNG and KING work on standardisation and unlocking municipal council information as open data. This information is vital for the functioning of local democracy. As standardised open data this information can be reused by third parties. KING works with providers on a standard of council information systems and to enable more and more municipalities<\/a> to be able to share their council information as open data.<\/p>\n
At the moment municipal council data is available as open data for 16 Dutch municipalities via the Open Raadsinformatie API<\/a>. This is an API based on RESTful JSON and consists of more than 60,000 documents. The information in this API is standardised according to the POPOLO<\/a> metadata standard. In the autumn of this year, the number of muncipalities with open council data will be increased from 16 to 100 councils. With this 1 out of four municipalities will have open council data.<\/p>\n

How can I join the App-Challenge<\/h3><\/pre>\n
With this App Challenge, developers, data analists, data journalists and other creatives are challenged to send it their best and viable idea for the reuse of Open Municipal Council data. You can send your idea in writing, but you won’t need to have a working app yet. Please read the terms and conditions<\/a> (PDF).<\/p>\n
On Friday November 3, between 13.30 and 16.00 there will be a pitch event in the municipal hall of the municipality of Utrecht. Participants will present their app to a jury. The jury will then decide which concept will be awarded with a development budget of \u20ac20,000. Accordingly, the winner will develop the app under guidance of KING and will deliver the application on January 31 2018. After delivery of the application the budget will be provided. With other promising participants, that have not won the development budget, KING will discuss to see in which way other ideas might be realised.<\/p>\n
