Diplotwoops.org is a database of diplomats&#8217; tweets, lost and found.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/openstate.mu.openstate.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2014\/02\/diplotwoops.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1428 aligncenter\" alt=\"diplotwoops\" src=\"http:\/\/openstate.mu.openstate.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2014\/02\/diplotwoops.png\" width=\"515\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"https:\/\/openstate.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2014\/02\/diplotwoops.png 515w, https:\/\/openstate.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2014\/02\/diplotwoops-300x78.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 515px) 100vw, 515px\" \/><\/a>On Thursday, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/diplotwoops.org\/p\/diplomats\/RusEmbEst\/436416562359455744\">Russian Embassy in Estonia deleted a tweet<\/a>\u00a0in which it accuses the Estonian president Toomas Hendrik Ilves (@IlvesToomas) of aggravating the crisis in Ukraine and of spreading lying tweets.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/diplotwoops.org\/p\/diplomats\/UKOSCE\/436107288643125248\" target=\"_blank\">UK delegation at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe<\/a>\u00a0(OSCE) and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/diplotwoops.org\/p\/diplomats\/UKinGermany\/436154337954656257\" target=\"_blank\">UK embassy in Germany removed a retweet<\/a>\u00a0of British Foreign Secretary William Hague in which he tweeted: &#8216;Violence against peaceful protestors is unacceptable and the Ukrainian gov should be held accountable&#8217;. Instead, it tweeted the official statement by the OSCE.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/diplotwoops.org\/p\/diplomats\/RussianEmbFinla\/436192329767321600\" target=\"_blank\">A deleted tweet by the Russian embassy in Finland<\/a>\u00a0shows that the Russian Foreign Ministry removed a tweet with apparently a quote by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov saying: &#8216;The events in Ukraine are arousing deep concern. We have repeatedly warned against such a course of events&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/diplotwoops.org\/p\/diplomats\/GeoffPyatt\/431499982441807872\" target=\"_blank\">Geoffrey Pyatt<\/a>, the current United States Ambassador to Ukraine deleted retweet of Julian Pecquet, foreign affairs reporter and blogger for The Hill, stating that the White House &#8216;blames Russia for leaking &#8220;Fuck the EU&#8221; Ukraine call&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Diplomats may think their deleted Twitter messages are gone for good. Not at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/diplotwoops.org\/\">Diplotwoops.org<\/a>, where a horde of ill-considered missives live to see another day. Diplotwoops.org is an off-spring of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/politwoops.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Politwoops<\/a>\u00a0that was launched by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.openstate.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Open State Foundation<\/a>\u00a0in 2010 as a way of following members of parliament and local representatives, there are now 26 other international versions of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/politwoops.com\/countries\" target=\"_blank\">Politwoops<\/a>. In 2012 <a href=\"http:\/\/sunlightfoundation.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sunlight Foundation<\/a> launched\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/politwoops.sunlightfoundation.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">the U.S. version of Politwoops<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other recent diplotwoops<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/diplotwoops.org\/p\/diplomats\/EitvydasB\/431922334996258816\">Eitvydas Bajarunas, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Sweden<\/a>, was bothered by Soviet symbols at the opening of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. The European delegation in India believes in further European integration but\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/diplotwoops.org\/p\/diplomats\/EU_in_India\/433154773173284864\" target=\"_blank\">removed a tweet asking how many medals the EU could win if it took part in the Olympics as one team<\/a>. Also in India, the Russian Embassy\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/diplotwoops.org\/p\/diplomats\/RusEmbIndia\/432748077985071105\" target=\"_blank\">deleted a tweet<\/a>\u00a0saying that the Russians enjoy the longest paid vacations and the largest number of holidays in the world. The Greek embassy in London\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/diplotwoops.org\/p\/diplomats\/GreeceinUK\/433634499042504704\" target=\"_blank\">removed a message with a link to an article in The Guardian<\/a>\u00a0asking for the return of the Elgin marbles from the Parthenon, currently in the British Museum.
