With 110 coding participants and an astounding list of 22 quality apps, Open State’s Hackathon Public Broadcasting was a great success.<\/p>\n

On 9 November 2013, Open State organized with its Hack de Overheid community a succesful Hackathon at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision in Hilversum. The Hackathon Public Broadcasting was organized in cooperation with the Netherlands Public Broadcasting (NPO), STER and the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision.<\/p>\n

The event with more than 110 coding participants and with 22 high quality apps was astounding success. At the recently renewed Hack de Overheid site the full app-list<\/a> is described. The jury noticed that subtitle-datasets<\/a> were particularly popular. Also datasets containing program description both from TV (POMS<\/a>) and Radio (Radiobox<\/a>) as well as datasets from the National News Quiz<\/a>\u00a0and datasets from the STER<\/a> were used intensively.<\/p>\n

After the presentation of 22 teams with their apps, the jury selected the following five prizewinners:<\/p>\n

* Spot de Spot<\/strong> by Barry Borsboom<\/a> and Patrick Klerks<\/a>: a game using STER-data<\/a> and YouTube to guess commercials.<\/p>\n

*\u00a0NPOlitiek\u00a0<\/strong>by DoodleSoft<\/a>\u00a0– an app to see when by you selected politicians or political parties or appear or have appeared on television.<\/p>\n

*\u00a0OpenOmroep<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0by Dispectu<\/a>\u00a0a search engine that uses program meta-data and substitles data for queries of sentences and subjects within video.<\/p>\n

*Radio Nowhere\u00a0<\/strong>by Team NOS (Rachid Finge<\/a>, Joost van der Borg<\/a>, Ruud Verstraeten<\/a> en Jorge Liauw Calo<\/a>) – mobile app: what music is being played on which radio station, what are your friends listening at the moment.<\/p>\n
